APSN collaborated with the course to design specialised garments for their students for this assignment. The garments were mainly made with upcycled UNIQLO stock that was donated to us.

We had to choose a sub-culture to focus on and make/style a look based on our student client's interests.

Subculture Looks

My groupmate and I chose a subculture each, and produced 2 looks for our subculture. I chose to do Hip-hop, and she chose to do Mods. After consulting with our client, we realised that he had a strong interest in soccer. With this in mind, I decided to go with one of my Hip-hop looks as there are elements reminiscent of his interest.

Inspiration Board

Some eements we decided to focus on were graffiti art, denim, and layering from the Hip-hop subculture.

Moodboard

Since he also liked the colour blue and green, I included the specific shades he liked in this moodboard. He also emphasised his love for the soccer player, Ronaldo. So I made sure to use him as the main inspiration for our final look.

Material and Colour Board

His favourite colours thankfully matched the denim and UNIQLO garment we got. Along with the garment, we planned to upcycle my groupmate's old jeans to create her portion of the outfit, which was the shrug sweater. I also included details such as screen-printed puffy lettering, and the draw-strings in the front.

Design Illustration

Flat drawings for our final garments. I crated the sleeveless jersey, while my groupmate created the denim shrug sweater.

Style Board

We planned to style him based on our inspiration board and illustration. Since he had alot of pride in being a prefect, we wanted to honor that pride by including it into the final look. And to give a hint of childlike quirkiness to his look, we decided to included soccer-related pins onto the tie.

Making use of the graffiti on our canteen's wall, we decided that it just so happened to match the vibes of the subculture, and our final garments.
