For my Final Year Project of my diploma course, I had to create a collection, consisting of 4 looks, based on a concept I came up with. The design direction had to be inspired by the group component, where we had to create a label to support our individual collections.
Things to note:
1. Click on each board/photo to expand and view the full description!
2. Individual photos can be viewed in the 'photography & design' section of the portfolio page.
The first 8 slides are part of the group component, the rest were done by me*

Inoia Introduction
This is the introduction of the label I had to create along with my groupmates for the group component.
Brand Story
A description of what Inoia represents, and hope to evoke in others.

Key Visuals
Seeing the beauty within the ordinary meant that anything and everything can be beautiful. We decided to not just focus on one colour scheme, but to focus on how the colours transition from one another smoothly and seamlessly. the same philosophy is also said for the textures.
We also decided to focus on softly structured silhouettes, accentuating the fabrics and textures of each garment.

Mood Board
From the key visuals, I created a mood board to evoke the transition between texture, structure, and colours.
Neutral tones were kept for our design direction, along with more natural tones of colours to emphasise the natural flow of the ordinary.

Brand Positioning
Inoia is positioned against brands such as Robert Wun and Alexander McQueen for their brand philosophies, design directions, etc.
Target Market
The Curated Romantics are people who care about the philosophy and story behind each piece of art they collect, including the garments they wear. Romanticising the little things in life, they mindfully curate the life they want to live with intention.

Market Awareness
Future Consumers continue to want to spend and curate with intention, connecting with sentimental value.

Inchoate Introduction
This is the introduction of my collection, inchoate, as part of Inoia.
Concept
Inchoate, meaning something that has just begun and so not fully formed or developed, is a collection that highlights the beauty in natural phenomenon, using water as a catalyst.

Mood Board
Inchoate focuses on a natural phenomenon per look:
look 1 - reflection of light on water
look 2 - formation of fossils
look 3 - meandering of water streams
look 4 - crystalisation of geodes
This collection also emphasises on the symbolism of the spiral. Rather than being inspired by nature's 'circle of life', I see it as a spiral instead - always evolving, but never the same.

Inspiration Board
Key visuals include structured, organic silhouettes with softer fabrics, textures that resemble natural occurring patterns, and more neutral tones and colours.

Colour & Material Board
Fabrics were chosen to reflect my inspirations from the previous board.
The colours are drawn from nature, adding blue and maroon tones to bring out the collection's timelessness and sophistication.

Rendered Final Collection
Each look incorporates elements of their natural phenomenon, and a spiral drape to tie the whole collection together.
Thoughts, processes, and explanations can be viewed under 'inchoate (process)' in the 'fashion' section of the portfolio page!
The backs of look 1 and 4 are also rendered to further illustrate its details.

Editorial Shoot - Front Cover Page
An editorial shoot for the collection was also done. This is the cover page I designed to be made into a physical copy.

Editorial Shoot - Page 1 & 2
I chose this as an establishing shot for it's balanced symmetry. Showing each look in order, it emphasises the harmony within each look, and the dynamic of the collection as a whole without giving too much of the details away.
Editorial Shoot - Page 3 & 4
Look 1 (right) is a visual representation of the reflective nature of light. Light reflecting on water, creates random and sporadic patterns on the surface, moving at random in its depth.
The skirt represents its chaotic nature. Accompanied by the spiral outerwear and asymmetrical top, the continuous panels and structure of the skirt is a reflection light's beauty in chaos.
To transition to look 2, a shot of the models wearing look 1 and look 2 are pictured together (left).

Look 2 (right) emphasises the formation of shell fossils in the spiral gathers on the side of the skirt. Stacked gathers are also layered on top, to represent the layered nature of fossil formation. A final flare flows out of the shells, and flows in the wind to give the movement of water.
Flares cascade down the top in wavy panels, creating movement and harmony that matches the bottom.
The next page (right) is a 'conclusion' to the first two looks, teasing the next two in the following pages with this continued photo.

Continuing from page 6, page 7 (left) shows look 3 and 4 as a transitioning shot.
For look 3 (right), the flow and organic nature of streams are shown through the wavy, continuous panels imbedded into the top. Gathers protrude out of selected panels, creating the sense of randomness while contributing to its harmony.
The skirt was created to mimic the winding paths of meanders. With the help of the spiral drape, its harmony is emphasised to give the skirt balanced visual movement.
the separated sleeves tie everything together, flowing while being gathered at the cuffs to create a controlled flow.

Editorial Shoot - Page 9 & 10
Look 3 and 4 are pictured together (left) with emphasis on look 4.
Look 4 represents the crystalisation of geode layers. Geodes are known for their visually appealing, natural occurring layers. To play with that idea, I created a layering effect in the back with a gathered circular cut-out top, and the spiral drape piece. The top's gathered cut-out is controlled to create a circle, but not so much as to control where the lines go. The spiral drape draws focus to the layering effect, while also softens the look to make it more organic. The same cut-out is done on the front to balance the skirt's details.
The skirt consists of asymmetrically gathered panels to resemble the texture, and silhouette of a physical geode. While geodes always have something on the inside, I wanted to pay tribute to that visual with a visible difference in colour and texture for the lining to be seen in the front.
A nod to its spiral nature is also at the bottom of the spiral drape to create balance and to end off the collection on a reminder.

Editorial Shoot - Page 11 & 12
These shots are aimed to show the garments under a different, direct light. In their different positions and orientations, each shot shows how each look can be intertwined with each other, bringing out their details.

Editorial Shoot - Page 13 & 14
Some group shots to establish a conclusion. These shots were more stylistic in nature, showing off the cinematic and editorial potential of this collection.

With each of them standing in a balanced composition, I used this shot as the conclusion. As one of my favourite shots, the lighting, positions, and location shows this collection in a more natural light, highlighting its versatility and longevity.
